2018 Careers in Aviation – Awareness Programme for Teachers and Parents

12 May 2018

The “Careers in Aviation – Awareness Programme” for parent-teacher was successfully held on 12th May 2018, an activity co-organized by the HKSAR Government Education Bureau, and RAeS Hong Kong Branch. A group of local teachers and parents were invited to visit Hong Kong Aircraft Engineering Co. Ltd. (HAECO) and Hong Kong Aero Engine Services Limited (HAESL) for a better understanding of aviation industry in Hong Kong.

In order to further promote aviation industry, apart from teachers, this year’s programme also accepts application from Parent-Teacher Associations in Hong Kong. It was a success. Positive feedback was received from parents and teachers.

Upon arrival at HAECO, an introductory briefing was given by Mr. Neville Kwok (HAECO Airframe Services Manager) and Mr. Vic Chow (HAECO Aircraft Maintenance Engineer), to familiarize the teachers with the company structure, services, and the career development. The briefing was followed by a hangar tour, in which teachers can have a close look on how the aircraft maintenance was carried out, as well as to experience the working environment inside a hangar.

After the hangar visit, the tour transited to HAESL. A briefing was given by Ir. Bong Lam (HAESL Engine Overhaul Operation Support Manager) to introduce HAESL background, development, and career prospects. It was also followed by a workshop tour. The workshop tour not only visited HAESL’s Engine Overhaul workshop, but also the Component Repair workshop which employed cutting-edge technologies.

Teachers and parents were satisfied with the kind arrangement of RAeS and they agreed that this tour helps them to have a better understanding on aviation maintenance industry and career opportunities for their students.
